At the airport, next to the 61st check-in counter, there is a customs where stamps are put on receipts. It's better to go there with your luggage, the words "purchases inside the suitcase" work, but the suitcase must be nearby. The queue was decent, only one window was open, so allow at least half an hour just in case. They ask where you are flying to - it should not be Schengen. They put stamps, you drop off your luggage, and receive boarding passes. Then passport control. Today we stood in line for about an hour in the afternoon, only 2 windows were open, so allow extra time to avoid rushing. Then straight to customs inspection, for us it was quick, only 5 minutes. And right after passing the control, there will be a "tax refund" counter in front of you. If you want to get cash, they take a commission. For each receipt separately. It varies depending on whether it's Planet or Global Blue, and the amount of tax-free.
