And in Hong Kong, can someone recommend a cheap hostel/hotel?
We lived in Ibis — it was quite economical by Hong Kong standards) the rooms were okay, fairly clean and comfortable, we also got one with a nice window. The food there isn't great, but you can find something.
You can also consider the Bridal Tea House Hotel in Yau Ma Tei. Budget-friendly, it is located near the subway.
I would not recommend hostels. Most of them have very little space.
Did you like the location?
@Sergei: Yes, very much) We walked a lot — for example, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the starting point of Peak Victoria, and there were also many various restaurants nearby that we wanted to visit, etc. There is a subway station very close by + literally just across the road is the tram stop. The 7/11 around the corner is also a big plus.
@Anastasiya: It seems to me they are around every corner, aren't they? I have three near the hotel, each within a 3-minute radius.
We also booked Ibis for early December and then for New Year, how do you like the location? And how did you get from the airport to the hotel? Thank you.
@Lyudmila: If there are 2 or more people, a taxi is more comfortable, faster, and cheaper than the aeroexpress + taxi. There are more budget options - a bus to Tung Chung metro and then the metro to the needed station + walking with suitcases to the hotel.
@Ferro: I thought that the bus stops near the Ibis, my mistake.
@Lyudmila: No idea about Ibis. Maybe it's nearby. We need to look at the route map. But do you really want to do this - complete a quest upon arrival, how to get to the hotel??? One stop by taxi. It definitely won't cost more than 400 HK$. Just factor it into your trip budget.
@Lyudmila: Look for buses with the letter A, they go from the airport. You can easily get to almost any point, but not very quickly.
@Lyudmila: If you are talking about the Ibis Central hotel, there is the E11 bus. Stop Queen Street; Connaught Road West. Price 21.7. Schedule 5:20-00:00.
@Aleksei: Does E11 go from the Airport?
@Lyudmila: Yes.
@Aleksei: Thank you, you put me at ease.
@Lyudmila: Look, I just double-checked. The hotel stop is when you are going towards the Airport. If coming from the airport, the nearest stop is Macau Ferry, Connaught Road Central. This might not be very convenient anymore.
@Lyudmila: We took the subway from the airport to the train station. There, we switched to a taxi and arrived in about 10 minutes for around 400 rubles extra). On the way back, we opted for just a taxi — it turns out it's not much more expensive and quite fast, so that's good too!
@Anastasiya: That's quite a maneuver.
@Lyudmila: There is a tram stop next to the ibis, that's true)
