Please tell me how realistic it is to rent a car in Mombasa and drive to Amboseli on my own, while also including Tsavo and then back in the opposite direction? How are the roads and internet for using Google Maps?
I traveled from Nairobi to Amboseli last year - there is a two-lane paved road heading south from Mombasa, but it has potholes, similar to a local road somewhere in the Tver region, so it's better to take a jeep for your transfers. For national parks, only special lifted jeeps (70/75 Cruisers most often) with a driver are allowed - they are organized by the lodge where you will be staying, or they are always available at the entrance to the national parks (by the way, check the entrance fee, you will need to pay it as well).
