Do exchange offices accept old-style cash dollars?
Some exchange offices may not accept banknotes from 1996, but they were accepted without any problems in neighboring exchange offices and banks.
To the naked eye, the banknotes from the 1996 series are indistinguishable from those of the 1999 series, but in 1996, there were no invisible security features, which modern banknote counting machines are tuned to detect. Therefore, some exchange offices prefer not to deal with them at all.
I gave my 1996 banknotes to those who did not have banknote counting machines — to my landlord and at the dentist's office.
