Advise: Tangier or Essaouira?
These are completely different things. Essaouira is a small atmospheric town that is nice to stroll through.
Tangier is a larger beautiful city with lots of interesting places. There are plenty of places to walk, enjoy the atmosphere, and you can also see some sights. You can even take a hop-on/off bus if you wish.
If you have to choose one of these two cities, then Tangier, one hundred percent.
Essaouira, of course
They are different. Tangier is a European city, in fact. Essaouira is compact and stylish.
Yes, it is again important to know the priorities of who is looking for what in a journey.
I've not been to Tangier yet. Essaouira, to me, seems very plain. I don’t know why there is so much enthusiasm.
@Julia: Most likely because they are tired. To each their own, as they say... But Tangier is truly very interesting and simply beautiful. In general, the north of Morocco is still undeservedly little visited by Russian-speaking tourists, even though there is incredible nature here and a lot of interesting things.
And for me, Essaouira didn't work out at all; I think it's because we are already tired.
@Daria: Yes, nature amazed me in the north too! And the country is so amazing, it has everything: the ocean, mountains, desert, forests, waterfalls!
@Julia: Yes, I was just thinking about it yesterday. I agree with you, the country is amazing. The locals are very proud that you can see all 4 seasons in one day. This is somewhat exaggerated, but in winter you can ski in the mountains. And if you go down to the ocean, you can also swim.
