There is no airport in Izmir, it is actually a tiny airport with nothing much at all. But if you have some spare time before your flight, if you arrive a bit earlier, you can check in, drop off your luggage, take the train and after a couple of stops you will reach the big shopping center Optimum, where you can walk around, buy everything you need and head back to the airport on the train. It takes about 10-12 minutes in one direction, 3 stops, and you get off at Esbaş on the 4th stop.
