For example, can I just arrive at Rano Raraku and pay some guide on the spot, and do the same at other attractions? (It says in Lonely Planet that this is possible, but I haven't found this information anywhere else). Or do I need to hire a guide for the entire park, and if I want to ride a bike, will I have to put him on the bike rack and carry him around the whole park?
Without a guide, you won't be allowed on the territory, but you can explore the island freely. Without a guide, they only let you into a couple of places. Otherwise, we took excursions (which can be booked at different hotels).
There are no guides at the actual attractions; usually, there are old ladies sitting around checking tickets. So in any case, you'll need to bring a guide with you.
Understood, it’s just that in Lonely Planet from 2023 it says you can take a guide on the spot, and that a ranger (that's how it's written) will go with you). So I'll be looking for a guide in advance. Thank you.
